Well, the Christmas season is almost upon up and the New Year is just around the corner. So we’ll take a few minutes away from our regular writings and suggest a resolution regarding doing things correctly for 2017 (regarding roofing).

If you or a friend believe that you will be needing a new roof this coming year, don’t be fooled by warranties and high pressure sales people. Very seldon do we see a home’s roof integrity last the life of the shingle. Most roofs are replaced long before the actual roofing material has failed.

A very common problem is thatwhen the purchase of the new roof was made, more weight was given to the quality of the material rather than the roofing contractror who is installing the material. There is an old saying in the roofing business – “give a quality contractor a crappy roofing shingle and it will last twice as long as a great roofing shingle installed by a crappy roofing contractor”.

You know why the roof above had to be replaced after only 3 years? Because the homeowner selected a good shingle to be installed by a cheap contractor who installed the new roofing material right over existing rot. Roofing nails, plywood nails, no nails will hold when sunk into rotted wood.

So what could be a good roofing resolution for 2017? Hire a quality roofing contractor – and yes – get the better roofing shingles – this time it will be worth it.
