It doesn’t happen every day, but when it does, it sure makes you glad to have solved a mystery roof problem.

As a roofing contractor in Portland, Oregon for the last 20 years, I thought I’d seen it all. From lead eating squirrels to bullets holes through the roofing membrane. But last winter I received a call regarding a recent roof we had installed: it was leaking. I immediately scheduled our main Foreman out to the home to inspect for possible roof problems. Their new roof was a 40 year Certainteed Landmark Professional roofing product with Ice & Water Shield wrapped penetrations, metal valleys, lifetime pipe flashings and continous ridge venting.

The first thing the roofing Foreman noticed as he drove up to the home was a beautiful new roof with high definition ridge caps. He was well aware that just because a new roof looks good doesn’t mean it can’t leak, but with all the special care and the quality materials that go into each roof that Cascade Roofing installs, it almost never happens. But as he entered the home, sure enough, there was a water stain on the ceiling and it looked fresh.

The homeowner said that the leak started right after the big wind and rain of last week. They loved their new roof, but were quite nervous about the recent water intrusion.

Stay tuned for the rest of the story.
