It would be an understatement to say not all roofs are the same. They come in small and simple, medium and cut up, large and complicated or a combination of all three. The best way to view your roof is to type your address into Google and chose the satellite view. By zooming in you will get a pretty good view of your roof’s layout, unless your covered in trees.

The more cut-up the roof, generally the more material it takes to roof it and the more time involved in making all the necesary cuts and flashings. Thus the price is generally higher than say a simple roof.

Another way to look at your roof is from your yard. If you can’t see your roof because it’s two or three stories up in the air, take note. Or maybe your roof is very easy to view because it is so steep that it almost faces you, take note. How about you have to walk a 100 yards away from your home just to get on your drive-way, take note.

There are many factors that go into figuring the cost of a new roof. Not only are not all roofs the same, but nither is the access or the yard surrounding it. So when you neighbor says my roof only cost me so many dollars, be careful in your comparison. Make sure you take all the bidding components into account for a more realistic cost analysis.
