How do I know if I’m over-paying for my new roof? That’s a tough one, because generally you won’t know the value of your new roof until it has performed for years protecting your home.

There are three main ingredients in the purchasing of a new roofing system. The estimate section, the installation section, and the longevity section. Let’s start with the first one: The Estimate.

Part of any project is the estimation and the creation of a written proposal. This should require an appointment that is easy to schedule around your busy day, an exact time of the meeting, and a friendly and well prepared meeting. Next is the time the salesperson spends with you learning about your needs and wants. They will then spend some time looking over the job and asking questions about the project. Once a bid has been created, they should spend time with you going over the proposal and all the options that are available. The right contractor will also spend time talking about their company along with providing you a written bid including insurance and warranty informaion.

The first section, ” The Estimate”, gives you your first clues as to whether this is a roofing contractor you should be considering. If you can’t easily reach you contractor now and get a timely response, what will happen once the money is collected and the job is long done? Those first few meeting with your potential roofer will set the stage for later on. Regarding “paying too much”, let leave that for later on in the process. First of all, lets create a list of qualified applicants. A cart without wheels is never a good deal.
