Pro Roofing Salespersons Need to Check You Attic!

We hear it everyday – “Why do I need to meet someone at my house, just have them drive by and give me a bid.”

It might seem odd, but if I had a choice, I would rather go inside the home instead of on the roof to provide the most informative and accurate bid. Now that doesn’t mean inspecting the roof from the outside is a waste of time, on the contrary. A good roof walk can tell us a tremendous amount about what has been going on – good and bad – and how we should prepare our roofing proposal.

But no matter how hard we look on the roof, the attic often holds the secrets as to what the real condition of the roof and structure combined are. Put on a good roof but don’t address the problems in the attic and you won’t have a good roofing system. The outside along with the inside must work together to move heat and mositure out of the attic and keep rain and snow from entering the attic space.

So if your roofing professional wants to look in your attic before providing you with a roofing proposal – your answer should be “I was hoping you would do that!”. However, if the attic and interior are ignored by the roofing contractor, then its time to get a professional roofing inspection, not just a quick bid.
