Three Mistakes To Avoid When Purchasing a New Roof: Part I

Starting your roof project out by hiring a roofing contractor who is a professional should be a given: but it’s amazing how often factors such as price sway common sense. Start the process of selecting a roofer the same way you might select a new doctor (both professions done poorly can cause lots of unnecessary pain).

Have they been perfecting their trade (Doctor / Roofer) over the last few decades or so, or maybe their just starting out and you will make some good practice for them?

Are they certified and licensed to perform the work they are going to do and what happens if something goes wrong – do they have the correct and current insurances?

Did they provide you with a comprehensive proposal and did they discuss in detail with you what their going to do? Are you comforable with their presentation? Was it nonexistent, just right, or maybe just high pressure?

Check online – Angie’s List, Google, Yelp. These sites don’t guarantee success, but they can sure help you avoid failure.

Last but not least – Your Gut Feeling. Does he or she seem professional, do you trust them, are you (your house) willing to go under the blade with them?

Doctor or Roofer – both will affect your peace of mind for years to come. Choose carefully.
