Why is Roof Venting so Important?

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions to roofing contractors in Portland, but one of the least understood. Let’s make the answer simple – there are two main reasons when you install a new roof why you should understand and follow the manufacture’s venting requirements:
1) It benefits your home by keeping the attic area cool and dry.
2) It maintains your manufacture warranty.

It used to be when you filed a roofing shingle warranty claim that the manufacture would ask for a few shingle samples and pictures of where they were removed along with what appears to be the problem. Presently – they ask for those same samples and pictures along with pictures detailing how the home’s roof is ventilated.
What this means: does the house have good intake vents as shown above and does the house have the proper amount of exhaust vents. A certified roofer will know what his manufacture requires and will be able to make those recommendations.
