Help?? – Those Darn Roofing Contractors – Part II.

Well, the first thing a good roofing repair Foreman does is go up on the roof and check things out. The lifetime lead flashings and metal roof vents were undisturbed along with the new skylight and chimney flashings. The roofing shingles were not damaged and the area over the leak tested dry with a roofing moisture meter. Nobody wants to hear that their new roof was perfectly installed as they battle an interior leak.

So the next step was to inspect the attic. Into the house and up the ladder the Foremen went. The attic was dry over the plywood roof decking, but sure enough, on the attic floor was a water stain and it was still slightly wet. Next to the stain was the evidence that gave away the cause of the leak – bird dropings. Pulling away a piece of insulation, sure enough, there was a hole leading to the outside.

With the recent wind and rain, the water was driven into the birds access hole and made its way into the customer’s home. A roofing tin shingle over the hole made a quick temporary repair.

So before you blame your roofing contractor for a leak, remember, your house may have just gone to the birds.
