Roof Types
Our Portland Roofers are certified to install many popular types of roofing on the market today. However, we do not specialize in all of them. The following list discusses some of the benefits for each style of roofing material.
Composition / Asphalt Shingles are made of fiberglass matting that is covered with asphalt and coated with protective granules. This style of roofing is the most common roofing material used on residential pitch roofs. It can also be the least expensive roofing available, but with the introduction of many new styles, many with heavier appearances and lifetime warranties, these asphalt products can sometimes cost as much as shake or metal roofing.
The newer asphalt shingles are often referred to as Laminated Shingles because they are constructed of multilayer panels that produce a three dimensional profile. These shingles are often enhanced with shadow lines which produce a much thicker visual effect and algae-resistant granules to help in keeping the roof from becoming stained.
Like many roofing products today, fiberglass asphalt shingles are A rated for fire protection and have wind warranties will over 100 mph. High end products weigh up to 450 pounds per square and can last up to 40 to 50 years.
Cedar Shake Roofing material is made from cedar because of its lightweight yet durable properties. It is most popular for it curb appeal, but it is also an excellent insulator and can withstand extreme temperatures. The standard life cycle of an untreated roof can vary between 15 to 20 years depending on the quality and thickness of the cedar shake. Wood roofing that has been treated and cared for can provide homeowners many additional years of service from their roof.
Our roofers have decided to discontinue cedar shake roofing our residential roofing customers. We feel the expense – including installation and maintenance, along with theits poor fire rating and the lack of quality old growth available, no longer makes cedar shakes a good option for our roofing contractors to install and stand behind for our customers.
Tile Roofs are available in many different styles and color finishes, from Spanish Tile to Mission Tile. They can add curb appeal and beauty to many different types of homes. Compared to other roofing materials, both concrete and clay tile can outlast the life of the structure. Regarding cost, tile roofs cost about twice as much as cedar roofing and three times as much as asphalt roofing. Most tile roofing is installed during the new construction of the original home because its weight often requires additional support.
Our Portland roofing company no longer offers re-roofing with lightweight tile products. During the past ten years three of the manufactures that produced the light-weight tile have gone bankrupt and left the consumer and contractor holding the bag. However, there are many well made standard weight tile products and we would gladly refer you to a local roofing company that specializes in their installation.
Metal Roofing, whether it is standing seam to copper panels, may be costly but comes with benefits. Durability and fire retardant are the two most often cited benefits. Because of the lack of interest in the Portland Metro area for residential metal roofing products, Cascade Roofing no longer offers this service.
Torchdown Roofing, just like the names implies, it is installed by applying heat to the bitumen and fiberglass rolled product. The seams are welded together to form a single sheet for application on low-pitch roofs. Because of its tough qualities and granular coating, Torch-down roofs are long-lasting with an average life span of 20 to 30 years.
Our roofers in Portland Oregon have been installing Torchdown roofs for over 30 years and are certified by the National Roofing Contractors Association to safely install this product. It is an excellent material to use in conjunction with asphalt roofing due to its compatibility in product and matching colors.
PVC Roofing products have been available for over 20 years and are gaining in popularity for their reflective properties and longevity. They are available in many thicknesses including 45mil / 60mil / and 80mil. The installation of a PVC membrane is done by fastening it to the building’s roof deck and then heat welding the seams together.
Cascade Roofing Portland is factory certified as a Johns Manville professional installer. This means your warranty is longer and the roofing product is installed to the manufactures specifications.

Flat Roof
Single ply membranes are the most widely used roofing products currently being installed and are available in many types and qualities. Most membrane roofs are easy to maintain and regularly provide 20 plus years of service. At Cascade Roofing Portland, we only install the best.
The Pacific Northwest offers unique challenges for flat roof solutions. Our local Portland roofers are factory trained to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship and we are committed to installing only the best quality products.
You have many choices when it comes to installing a new roof on a flat or slightly pitched area of your home. The days of hot-mopped tar and gravel roofs (built-up roofing) are almost gone. Their replacements, when properly installed, can offer a longer roof life along with much better reflective properties. Because these newer styles of roofing such as PVC and Torchdown often only require a single ply, the requirement for installation expertise is noticeably more significant than the multiple layers associated with a built-up roof.
Hiring a roofing company with flat roof know how is critical in the Portland Metro area. The chances of having a leak on a newly installed flat roof is many times more likely to happen than that of a pitched roof. Cascade Roofing has over 50 years experience installing and servicing flat roofs along with the experience and commitment to getting the job done correctly.
Our goal is to be the best at what we do no matter if you have a flat roof on your home, a steep pitched roof, or if it’s a roof on the commercial building for your business. No matter if you’re in Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, Tualatin or Portland we are happy to provide you with a free roof replacement estimate.
Pitched Roof
We specialize in asphalt fiberglass composition shingles including laminated architectural and luxury shingles. In addition, our local Portand Roofers can add skylights, roof venting and high quality gutters while re-roofing your home.
Installing a new roof over an existing roof is referred to as a “recover” or “lay-over”. This application of reroofing could initially save you considerably as you will avoid the cost of tear-off labor, dump fees and much more.
A tear-off of your old roofing does several things that can’t be done with a recover: Inspect the roof deck for rot or poorly fastened sheeting / Install an Ice & Water Shield membrane around penetrations and lowslope areas / Inspect for vaulted ventilation / Perform carpentry easily on barge boards such as adding outlooker supports / Reduces the weight on the roof structure / Increases the manufactures warranty / Last longer / Lays flat and looks better / ……
Are you getting the idea that a tear-off is a much better way to go? We at Cascade Roofing do not install roofing recovers, only tear-offs. Yes it is more expensive in the short run, but a professional roofer must know what’s going on with the roof deck before a new roof is installed over it. It is not unusual to inspect a roof that is leaking because the roofing is not laying flat or to find soft spots and buckles on a new roof because the decking is rotted or coming loose.
If you must do a recover, it should be over a 3-tab style of material that is laying flat, the roof deck should feel strong with no soft spots, and there should only be one layer of roofing existing on the roof. Current code allows for up to three layers of roofing, but this is based on weight, not performance. Also, don’t forget to ventilate your attic even if you’r doing a recover to avoid condensation and mold problems.
The best option for reroofing is a tear-off. Call Cascade Roofing to provide you with a complete bid for a new roofing system.

Testimonials
Terri Solomon
They did an excellent job. When the old shingles were removed, the roofers took care to protect the windows, shrubbery, and lawn. No debris was left in the yard. It took them only two days to remove the old shingles, put on new shingles, replace two skylights, add vents, valleys, and drip edges and clean up. The roofing contractors were conscientious, polite, and pleasant. I would (and have already) recommend Cascade Roofing Portland.
Bill Johnson
Our experience was a positive one from the get-go. Nels Goranson is a pleasure to deal with. He estimated 45 days lead time, but had a very capable crew out here in 3 weeks and they were finished in a day after delivering the materials the day before. The next day the very personable “Stan” came out to inspect the job and showed up with a huge Coleus plant. The best part, a few days later we received our statement with another little “surprise” that made the bill go down sweeter! It’s no wonder Cascade Roofing Portland gets so many accolades.

We chose Cascade Roofing Portland based on your website reviews etc. They were very polite and professional throughout the process. The initial consultation and bid process was low key and comfortable. They were thorough and detailed. Once we placed a down payment (Minimal), they said that they would be able to get our roof done in September or October based on their schedule. Once they had an opening, they contacted us with plenty of time to prepare. They showed up bright and early and completed the new roof within 1 day. Their crews were very impressive, and they wasted no time getting started. Everyone knew their jobs well and worked seamlessly together. Once the job was complete, the roofers thoroughly cleaned the yard and work area. They did not leave any scraps or material behind and swept the sidewalks and deck. The inspector followed up with his visit/inspection and brought a nice bouquet of flowers as a gift. My wife and I were very pleased with everything!

We are happy with the customer service, attention to detail, timeliness of the estimators and roofers. I was pleased that they had painted all of the pipes coming up through the roof the same color as the trim. They also added open valleys above the chimney (the chimney off the line of the ridge). The roofers were careful about cleaning up, and about asking for details where placement of solar tube and skylight would be.
